Recommit yourself to the future of Shepherd University...
As alumni, we once committed our education to Shepherd University at a critical coming of age. This commitment was among the most important we have ever made in our lives. Likewise, as members of the Shepherdstown community, friends of the University, and those seeking to continue their education through its classes and programs, we have committed ourselves to cultivating its important role in the cultural and economic lifestyle of West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle.
As the Shepherd University Foundation celebrates its milestone 50th anniversary this year, I would like to suggest that everyone whose lives have been touched by this great institution once again spend a few moments reflecting upon all that Shepherd has given you, and how you might recommit yourselves to it. Think about the role this University and its professors played in your personal and professional development, and how your life has been enhanced by the education you received. Think about the academic, cultural, and career experiences Shepherd offers its students, faculty/staff, and community, and how the surrounding region benefits from its continued growth. Then think about how you might give back to an institution that has given so much to you.
There are numerous opportunities for you to recommit yourself to Shepherd University. Affinity groups such as athletics, theater, music, the Scarborough Library, and the Alumni Association benefit from your time, talent, and treasury.
As President of the Shepherd University Foundation, it is my duty to ask that you consider becoming an active contributor to our annual fund or endow a scholarship, program, or faculty excellence award through the Foundation. These gifts ensure that future scholars receive the same quality education as those of us who once committed our own education to Shepherd.
Additionally, a deferred gift is an excellent way to provide financial support for the continued success of Shepherd University. While you may not have the financial confidence or ability to make a gift right now, a deferred gift such as a bequest will make a difference in the lives of future generations of Shepherd students. Please let the Foundation know of your intent to join the Joseph P. McMurran Society with a planned gift, and we will be happy to help guide you through the process.
Shepherd University’s outstanding alumni and community friends have been instrumental in creating its legacy. We hope that you will recommit to being equally involved in the process of creating its future as well.
