Why study English at Shepherd?

Designated as one of the Peaks of Excellence at Shepherd University, the Department of English and Modern Languages has a multi-talented faculty whose enthusiasm and expertise are the Department's primary asset.

All full-time faculty have Ph.D. degrees from universities across the country and degree specialties that cover the complete range of literature and linguistics courses. The English faculty represents some of the finest teaching and scholarship to be found in any department on campus, and a variety of teaching methods and critical approaches insures a well-rounded and open-minded student population.

The English faculty and their students take full advantage of Shepherd's close proximity to Washington, with its literary and cultural institutions such as the Folger Shakespeare Library and Theatre, Arena Stage, the Kennedy Center, as well as other museum and cultural opportunities. Class sizes of advanced courses averages 15 students.

Why study at Shepherd University?
