The Rude Mechanicals is a theater company at Shepherd University devoted to the performing socially conscious productions of medieval and Renaissance drama. Past productions include "The Harrowing of Hell," "The Second Shepherds' Play," "Mankind," "Death and Destruction" and staged readings of scenes from Shakespeare.

 

The company has performed in Shepherdstown, Washington DC, and Toronto. In the summer of 2001, the Rude Mechanicals performed "The Death of Herod" at the Festival for the International Society for Medieval Theatre in Groningen, Netherlands.
