Historical English Fonts




All of the fonts on this page have been created by type-face enthusiasts and distributed as freeware on the web. The first group of fonts, "Authentic Old, Middle, and Early Modern English Fonts were created from original source materials. Each of these fonts is a near-perfect replica of a typeface actually used in the historical period that it represents. Many of the Celtic and Gothic fonts are authentic fonts as well. The rest are modern creations that are meant to convey the flavor of a historical period.

Each of the fonts is in a self-extracting zip file. To use the font, download it to your computer and then click on it to open it. You will be promptd to export the file to the c:\windows\fonts directory, which is where systems fonts normally reside in a Windows environment. If you are using a Mac or another operating system, export the fonts to that environment's default font director.
