Zen and the art of the modern novel

Okay, so right now you are probably having one of two thoughts about visiting this page: “Cool, man, Zen” or “Zen? Zen! I can’t even understand this novel I’m reading, let alone some esoteric Eastern Philosophy!” I promise it won’t be painful. It’s true, the modern novel can be daunting, but a Zen attitude toward the modern novel could lead you to a deeper understanding of the novel you are reading. 

In order to begin applying the principles of Zen to the modern novel, we will have to have some understanding of what the modern novel and Zen are and then explore how to apply Zen techniques to the reading. Take a deep, even breath through your nose, exhale through your mouth in a normal, relaxed fashion, and let’s begin!
