The New Curriculum

 

Required Courses for all Three Tracks

·         ENGL 301: Introduction to Literary Studies

·         ENGL 310: British Literature to 1660

·         ENGL 311: British Literature, 1660-1900

·         ENGL 312: American Literature to 1900

·         ENGL 313: Literature in English since 1900

·         ENGL 421: Shakespeare

 

Additional Courses Required for the Literature Track

·         Either ENGL 415: Chaucer OR ENGL 423: Milton

·         Upper-division electives, 9 hours

·         ENGL 485: English Capstone

·         Foreign Language, 12 hours

 

Additional Courses Required for the Creative Writing Track

·         ENGL 371: Introduction to Creative Writing

·         Two of the following creative writing classes: ENGL 471: Fiction, ENGL 472: Poetry, ENGL 473: Creative Nonfiction, and ENGL 474: Drama

·         Upper-division elective, 3 hours

·         ENGL 485: English Capstone

·         Foreign Language, 12 hours

This coming Spring Break, March 13th to the 18th, the Department of English and Modern Languages will be sponsoring a trip to the Deep South as part of the ENGL447 (American Literature Travel Practicum) class.  During the six-day trip, travelers can expect to visit New Orleans, Louisiana, and Oxford and Jackson, Mississippi.  This trip will be open to students, faculty, and staff of Shepherd University, and to any interested community members.  For further information, contact Dr. Timothy Nixon at 304 876-5365 or tnixon@shepherd.edu.
