1-2-3s for Emergency Response
1. Gather the Facts
Are any of the following situations present on campus:
- Loss of life
- Violent crime
- Any uncontrolled fire or unidentified odor of smoke/burning in or near a University structure
- Threats of violence utilizing explosives, gunfire, or comparable terror
- Catastrophic damage created by natural weather condition or other phenomenon
- Interruption of utility services which could debilitate campus operations for a significant period of time
- Disease or illness affecting masses of students, employees, and/or campus visitors
2. Contact Emergency Services
If any of the above situations are present or there is an imminent threat of one of these situations, contact the proper emergency services provider.
- 9-9-1-1 from a campus phone for dispatch of all needed emergency service.
- If you feel confident that there is no immediate threat of injury to persons or property, you can contact the University Police Department at ext. 5374 or ext. 5202 (evenings and weekends).
3. Inform Your Manager and Contact the Supervising Member of the Executive Staff
Contact your manager with the details of the situation and any steps taken in contacting the appropriate emergency services.
Managers are responsible for contacting the supervising member of the Executive Staff listed below.
If one of the emergency services defined above has been contacted or if it is unclear as to whether an immediate emergency exists, immediately contact the Executive Staff member directly responsible for the supervision of the University area.

Executive Director, University Communications
AVP for Student Affairs/Director, Community and Congressional Relations
Above all else, ensure the immediate safety of yourself, your colleagues, and students, and do not take unnecessary risks in abating the crisis.
