This is a comprehensive degree program. Fulfillment of the courses and other requirements specified for the General Science 5-12 program will fulfill all requirements for graduation. See the program advisor about additional requirements.

  • General Studies Courses = 47 hours
  • General Science (specialty studies) Courses = 58 hours (11 hours will fulfill general studies requirements)
  • Education Courses (professional studies) = 30 hours

Teaching Certification

Fulfilling degree requirements alone will not be sufficient for qualifying for a license to teach. Your Specialization Handbook should include these additional requrements. The Office of the Department of Education in 108 Knutti Hall can also provide this information. Note that as a West Virginia college, we can speak with assurance only about West Virginia requirements. If you are planning to teach in other states, their state departments of education will be the appropriate source of information.
