Dr. Scott Hippensteel

scott_hippensteelDr. Scott Hippensteel is the Director of Instrumental Studies at Shepherd University and serves as Interim Director of the School of Music. He is conductor of the Shepherd Wind Ensemble, Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra, Ram Band, Symphony Band, and Pep Band. In addition to conducting, he teaches instrumental music education classes and instrumental conducting.  Dr. Hippensteel completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and earned his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Wind Conducting and Music Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Prior to his appointment at Shepherd University, Dr. Hippensteel served as a graduate Assistant with Ball State University where he directed performances with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Campus Band, and “Pride of Mid-America” Marching Band. Dr. Hippensteel was a Professor of Music at Huntington University for three years where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and taught classes in conducting, instrumental methods, and instrumental literature. He was the Assistant Band Director at Huntington North High School in Huntington, Indiana for thirteen years. Dr. Hippensteel has served as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout Indiana, Maryland, and West Virginia.

Dr. Hippensteel has remained active as a performer on bass trombone with the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Hagerstown Municipal Band, James Southern Jazz Orchestra, Twelfth Nigh Big Band, Three Rivers Wind Symphony, Ball State Wind Ensemble, Indiana University Wind Ensemble, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Marion Philharmonic, Manchester Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Blue River Big Band, and Erie Band.
