SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University has been named one of the top 30+ Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by the magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). The publication teamed up with ACPA to have The Center for Inclusion, Diversity and Academic Success at Ohio State University conduct the study, which looked at things like commitment to diversity and staffing practices at higher education institutions across the country.
Shepherd received a letter grade of “A” for almost all the categories, including bias monitoring, climate toward diversity, comprehensive new staff orientation, and perception of leadership toward diversity.
According to Dr. Tom Segar, vice president for student affairs, the Division of Student Affairs has engaged in a number of meaningful partnerships across the university to promote diversity and inclusion.
“This distinction reflects Shepherd University Student Affairs Division’s commitment to students, inclusion, best practices, and one another,” Segar said. “We work with colleagues throughout the university who share and demonstrate the same ideals. This collaborative and unified spirit makes all of Shepherd University a most promising place to work. We are delighted to be recognized for a second year.”
