SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is hosting two international scholars this semester. Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Dhafiri, professor of social work from Kuwait University, and José “Pepe” Cernicchiaro Guadarrama, coordinator of social commitment from Anáhuac University, Mexico, are on campus to collaborate with the Department of Social Work.

Al-Dhafiri is currently on sabbatical and is spending one year working with Craig Cline, Shepherd assistant professor of social work, researching examples of local, regional, and national social policy programs. He plans to draw on American models for potential adoption in Kuwait. Al-Dhafiri will also help connect Shepherd faculty to those at Kuwait University. Al-Dhafiri previously served as the cultural attaché at the Embassy of Kuwait in Washington, D.C.

Guadarrama is spending one week at Shepherd continuing a collaboration with Amy Garzón Hampton, Shepherd’s PRIDE coordinator/child welfare trainer, on two opportunities—a collaborative online international learning course on human rights and a study abroad trip in May to Puebla concentrating on international community service learning. Anáhuac University is Shepherd’s institutional partner in Mexico.
