SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The deadline to submit photos to the Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Frank X Walker Volume VI is January 20. The volume includes poetry and prose and will focus on the storytelling of Frank X Walker, Kentucky Poet Laureate and winner of Shepherd’s 2013 Appalachian Heritage Writer’s Award. Priority will be given to photos that deal with the African American community and Affrilachian people in both urban and rural settings. The anthology is published annually by the West Virginia Center for the Book and Shepherd University.
Up to five entries may be submitted and submission is free. Photos should be sized to 9.25 by 13.25 inches and saved as JPG files with a resolution of 300 dpi. Name files with your last name followed by the image title (example: smith_titled.jpg). Submit images–along with your name, address, e-mail, and a brief biographical statement–to anthologyphotographs@gmail.com, or e-mail photos directly to Dr. Sylvia Bailey Shurbutt, sshurbut@shepherd.edu.
Photographs selected for the anthology will also be part of a photographic exhibit during the Appalachian Heritage Festival in September. Please note that the chosen images will be converted to grayscale for the publication but will be displayed in color for the exhibition.
