Helping You Help Others Learn

MINI GRANT FUNDING

The Center for Teaching & Learning awards a limited number of mini-grants each year to individuals or departments to assist with curriculum or program development and the assessment of student learning initiatives. This semester we have already awarded eight grants in response to a wide range of requests. Dr. Jason Best utilized mini-grant funding to purchase and pilot the use of innovative technological tools called "i-clickers."  Some departments have utilized funding to hold off-campus assessment retreats at nearby locales to finalize assessment reports (BADM, ART, ENGL). Others have hired consultants to speak with students within their department so as to highlight new degrees and program growth (CSME). Still others have received funding to pursue advanced certification, benefiting departments, individual faculty members and students alike (ML, CSME).

We encourage you to consider ways in which grant funding from the CTL could help you to improve and innovate student learning within your department or office. For more information about mini-grant funding and the application process, please visit the mini-grant section of the CTL website: http://www.shepherd.edu/ctl/minigrants.html

Grant applications are accepted year round as money is available.

Minigrants are awarded for up to $1,000.
Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year as long as funds remain available. Proposals undergo a review process by members of the Assessment Task Force. Assessment Task Force members do not have a vote on any proposal within their department or unit.
A one-page summary of the results of the project are due upon completion of the project, no later than June 30, 2008. Recipients will also be required to share their projects at a "Celebration of Student Learning" session in March 2008. Many different kinds of activities could be funded, depending on the needs and interests of individual programs.
