NEW FACULTY LEARNING COMMUNITIES 101 & 102
The New Faculty Learning Community (NFLC) 101 and 102 are resources specifically created for new first and second year faculty members at Shepherd University. The NFLC 101 invites first-year faculty to attend monthly lunch sessions devoted to the exchange of ideas and insights, with special guest speakers addressing a range of topics related to first-year faculty. This year, the NFLC 101 welcomed the following new faculty to Shepherd:
Carol Adams, Stephanie Barnett, Francheska Guerrero, Heidi Hanrahan, Elizabeth Jenkins, Seung-yun Kim, Leslie Lopez, Alan MacDonald, Jason McKahan, Susan Rice, Mary Strasma, Georgiann Toole, and Qing Wang.
Topics covered during the NFLC 101 sessions this spring ranged from Problem-Based Learning Strategies to the Scholarship of Teaching, Dealing with Students in Distress and a final recap luncheon with President Suzanne Shipley.
The NFLC 102 gives second-year faculty members a chance to continue to explore topics of concern to new faculty. Keith Alexander, Dot Hively, Judi McIntyre, Tim Nixon and Stephanie Robbins were regular attendees to these seminars. This spring the NFLC 102 group explored Promotion & Tenure, Advising, Diversity in the Classroom & Dealing with Students in Distress.
Special thanks to our hard-working topic presenters as well: Ginny Adams, Dr. Mike Austin, Rhonda Jackson, & Dr. Bob Warburton.
