New Faculty Learning Communities 101 & 102
New Faculty members at Shepherd can find all the answers they need to succeed during their first and second years teaching thanks to monthly informational sessions, called “New Faculty Learning Communities”, which focus on specific concerns and faculty orientation. First year new faculty come together in the “NFLC 101” and second year new faculty members connect in the “NFLC 102”. The two groups meet separately but both are led by the direction of Dr. Laura Renninger, Dean of Teaching & Learning.
Faculty are encouraged to ask questions and each session features a guest speaker who provides detailed information on topics ranging from technological resources on campus to advisement and tenure. Lunch is typically provided and an informal discussion allows faculty time to ask questions, address issues they may have encountered and connect with other campus colleagues. The semester culminates in a celebratory luncheon to wrap up and casually reflect on the successes and learning experience of the past academic year. President Shipley attended these April NFLC sessions this year to congratulate new faculty and get feedback on their overall experience during their first and second year at Shepherd.
