Sakai v2.5 Unveiled!!

We will be unvailing Shepherd University's brand new Learning Management System, Sakai, in Summer 2008.  In the “Technology Update” in the winter 2007 edition of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) newsletter we discussed our pilot project with Sakai and Moodle--Learning Management Systems.  With the cooperation of approximately 300 students and 23 faculty evaluating Sakai and Moodle, and after conducting a thorough analysis of both systems, the CTL recommends that Shepherd University begin implementation of the Sakai learning management system for Summer II 2008.

Sakai is an open source and license-free system, costs considerably less than other proprietary systems, and offers comparable functionality and use.  While we recognize that many faculty members have significant time and effort invested in courses currently managed within WebCT, our analysis indicates that for most faculty members and students, Sakai is the best solution for our current and future needs.   For more information on our pilot program read our LMS Pilot Results Executive Report.
