THE COLLEGIATE LEARNING ASSESSMENT (CLA) TEST
Shepherd University has utilized several nationally certified standardized assessment measures to gain a better understanding of issues related to student learning. This March, for the third consecutive year, the CTL administered the CLA tests to graduating seniors.
The CLA test (Collegiate Learning Assessment) measures critical thinking skills and is given to entering freshmen during the fall semester and exiting seniors during the spring. We tested 115 seniors this March and will use the results to compare with seniors and freshmen tested in the previous two years. The goal is to chart progress and compare student proficiency on a national level for students both entering and exiting our institution.
A special thanks to our students and test proctors: John Adams, Lauryl Lewis, Gordon DeMeritt, Barri Tinkler, Shannon Holliday, John Sheridan & Max Guirguis. Students taking these tests were provided with coupons to area businesses and $25 gift cards to the Shepherd University Bookstore. Thanks also to department chairs and assessment facilitators for assisting us with the recruiting process. We are eager to share results when we receive them in the fall.
