Greetings!

laura I’m Laura Renninger, Dean of Teaching, Learning and Instructional Resources here at Shepherd University. Thank you for taking a moment to visit our site.

A short time ago we decided it would be wonderful if we were able to establish a “Learning Commons” here at Shepherd – in essence, a one-stop shop where students can find assistance with writing, study skills, the effective use of technology, and tutoring in any subject ranging from mathematics to foreign languages to music. And, a one stop shop where teachers can find pedagogical and technological classroom resources and exchange ideas with colleagues; a place where excitement about learning permeates every corner, every hallway, and every room. The Scarborough Library, the “intellectual heart of the campus,” has provided us with the perfect spot.

Thanks to the support of President Suzanne Shipley and the help of numerous professors, staff and students, we now have our very own Learning Commons. Our Mission to support teaching excellence and to foster learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom has reached a whole new level of synergy.

In one centralized location one can now find all of the following resources and support programs: Tutoring & Academic Support, Instructional Technology, Assessment of Student Learning, Common Reading Information, First-Year Experience (FYEX) Program, Faculty Development Workshops, New Faculty Mentoring, Academic Advisement Information, the Center for Teaching & Learning Library, the TRiO Student Support Services program, Audio-Visual Media Services, and the Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree Program Offices.

Please visit us soon and let us assist you with your learning needs.

Our Mission is to support teaching excellence and to foster learning experiences in and out of the classroom.

Welcome to Audio/Visual Media Services
Welcome to The Common Reading Program.
In our continuance of excellence we are charged with helping you help others learn by disseminating creative, innovative and appropriate technologies on the behalf and concern for the pursuit of understanding, enlightenment and knowledge.
Our purpose is to provide support services for students of all abilities, but especially for those who need assistance making the transition from high school to higher education. We offer tutoring, testing, advising and developmental programs in order to accomplish our mission.
Shepherd has created an innovative program of First-Year Experience courses. These courses offer creative ways to help students acclimate to university life, integrate into the campus community, and enjoy academic success. And by the way, the courses are even fun!
Academic Advising at Shepherd University reflects an institutional concern for the individual and a commitment to provide our students with a supportive environment in which students are able to work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators who encourage their intellectual growth, their personal fulfillment, and their academic and professional excellence.
