Shepherdstown, WV--The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Landsat images will be on display through the end of November in the readings rooms and lobby of Shepherd's Scarborough Library. "Earth as Art" is a joint USGS and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) collection of satellite imagery that displays 15 images of Earth taken by the Landsat 7 satellite from over 400 miles high. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Combining the skills of a master printer with state-of-the-art digital print technology, USGS produced these images as premium quality, fine art prints displaying rich color and precise detail. Photographed from a great distance and looking like eye-catching examples of modern art instead of photographs of earth are Mt. Kilimanjaro, Nomib Desert, Granges River Delta, Aleutian Clouds, Florida Everglades, Guiner Bissau, Terkezi Oasis, Demini River, West Fjords, Dragon Lake, Akpatak Island, Sulaiman Mountains, Konari Iran, MacDonnell Ranges, and the Atlas Mountains.

This collection highlights images created by the USGS to introduce the public to the Landsat Program administered jointly by the USGS and NASA. The USGS operates Landsat 5 and 7, manages the national archive of data collected by all of the Landsat satellites, and distributes this data to researchers around the world as part of the national map.
