CME student won WVAS Poster Award

Mr. Ray Naegle in CME department won one of two NASA awards in WVAS 2008 meeting for his poster titled Geometric and Removal Attack Resistant Watermarking in the Wavelet Domain”.  His mentor was Dr. Xiaojun Qi from Utah State University. Dr. Zhijun Wang, Dr. Liao and Dr. Rajaram have worked with Ray at Shepherd. Congratulations Ray.

CME landed a new degree program

On November 30, 2007, the newly developed Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree program was approved by HEPC. This new program draws balanced coverage in computer hardware and software. Graduates from this program will find their opportunites in IT companies, computer hardware industry, manufacture, or join graduate programs in Engineering Schools.

CME to host ECCAD 2008

Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering is going to host ECCAD 2008: East Costal Computer Algebra Day on May 10, 2008. More information can be found on ECCAD 2008 Web site at http://www.shepherd.edu/eccad2008.

Latest Undergraduate Research News

On November 27, 2007, Professor and Dr. James Sellers, from Mathematics Department at Penn State University, visited CME department and gave CME students and faculty membres a presentation on Fibonacci numbers. Professor James Sellers is invited by Dr. Rajeev Rajaram.

On November 27, 2007, Mr. Mark Simons, vice President in Experient Inc., gave CME students and faculty members an invited talk on how to get hired by the right company. Mr. Mark Simons is invited by Dr. Weidong Liao.

Recent Research Activities

Amine Benkiran has been awarded Undergraduate Fellowship from NASA WV Space Grant Consortium. Amine is now a Mathematics major and his advisor is Dr. Rajeev Rajaram.

Adam Anderson is selected as NASA 2007 Summer internship recipient at NASA IV&V facilities. Adam is now a double major in both CIS and Mathematics.

Raymond Naegle is selected as NSF Summer REU recipient to work at Utah State University during summer 2007. Raymond's major is Computer and Information Sciences.

School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics had NASA day on April 25, 2007.

On March 31, 2007, Jonathan P. O'Keefe, Weidong Liao and Osman Guzide presented their research on "Providing GCD Computation Services over the Internet and Distributed Environment" in the 82nd West Virginia Academy of Science annual meeting.

On March 6, 2007, Benjamin Koonse and Weidong Liao presented their research work on "A MVC based Framework to Supplying Mathematical Services over the Internet/Web" in the IEEE System and Software Engineering Week.

Past News

Cooperating with Kent State University, Marcella Townsend and Sheraton Stump completed their NSF Summer 2005 REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) research project on Web based Mathematical Education site (http://www.shepherdmathtutor.com).
