President The Board of Governors of Shepherd University invites applications and nominations for the position of President. President David Dunlop will retire in summer 2007 after 11 years of outstanding service, at which time the new President will take office. Shepherd University is a thriving public institution, situated on the banks of the Potomac River in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Shepherdstown is 70 miles northwest of Washington, DC, and is part of the Washington/Baltimore metro area. Shepherd is a regional university serving several of the fastest-growing communities in the nation. The enrollment at Shepherd University is currently just over 4,000 and has grown by 34% over the last decade. Continued enrollment growth is projected. Bachelor's degree programs are available in 75 different fields, and the University has five master's degree programs with more in the planning stages. The institution has managed nearly $100 million of construction in the past 10 years and has several more capital projects in development. Shepherd University is in the early stages of its first comprehensive fundraising campaign. It is an NCAA Division II institution. Preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree, a demonstrated ability to manage academic programs of high quality, and senior-level administrative experience. A high level of personal integrity and energy is essential, along with superior communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. The candidate will possess a strong commitment to diversity, collegiality, openness and participatory governance. Candidates must have a demonstrated aptitude for successful fundraising; knowledge of public-agency financial management and planning, budget administration, human resources, student life and enrollment management; and the ability to foster continued development of the institution while maintaining its tradition of excellence.
