The College President has led the campus in an extended discussion of the prospect of seeking university status and a name change reflecting this status. This change has been endorsed by the faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

The HEPC has established specific criteria for university status:

2) Have approved Mission Statement which provides for graduate programs (The current Mission Statement is attached.);
3) Obtain approval of North Central Association Higher Learning Commission for a master's program (Certificate of Commission attached);
4) Non-CTC faculty in which at least 2/3 of tenured and tenure-track faculty hold terminal degree (List of faculty, establishing 81% terminal degrees, attached).

The following resolution is recommended for adoption by the Board:

RESOLVED, That the Shepherd College Board of Governors finds that Shepherd College meets each of the Criteria for Designation of University Status approved by the Higher Education Policy Commission on February 15, 2002; and
