STAFF DEVELOPMENT REPORT

Policy 11 directs the President to submit to the Board an annual report relating to Staff Development.

Each year the classified employees at Shepherd receive a budget allocation for staff development. In FY '03 this allocation was $19,612. This figure was consistent with amounts allocated for the past several years.

Each year, the Chair of the Classified Employees Council appoints a Staff Development Committee of which the Director of Human Resources is a standing member. Nancy Roesel, Library Associate, is the Chair of the committee. The Staff Development Committee regularly reports to the Classified Employees council and the activities are noted in the Council minutes.

The Staff Development Committee has circulated questionnaires to help determine the need for large workshops and seminars. A goal of the Committee is to offer training to as many classified employees as possible. The Chair of the Staff Development Committee has submitted the attached report. Almost half of the classified employees were assisted this year with training, education, and development needs.
