SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — A Shepherd University biology major who aspires to be a veterinarian will have the opportunity learn what it’s like to attend vet school. Dominique Cincinnati, Martinsburg, has been accepted into the PennVet’s Veterinary Exploration Through Science (VETS) program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.

The VETS program, now in its ninth year, gives participants the opportunity to work with animals and learn about the science behind veterinary medicine.

“I’m really excited,” Cincinnati said. “They let you get hands-on experience, so I will do pathology and anatomy. I will work with police dogs, and all kinds of animals, from hamsters, to horses, to cows. These are all things I am not able to do here.”

Cincinnati, who will attend the June 11-15 session, said she has wanted to become a vet since she was a small child. Attending the VETS program will help her achieve that goal by giving her the experience needed to be accepted into vet school.
