Scholarships and Awards

The Rural Financial Planning Project (RFPP) has brought together a dynamic group of professionals to mentor Shepherd University financial planning students and provide significant private funding to support scholarships and other educational opportunities such as paid internships and attendance at national conferences. Students are recommended for awards by Shepherd's financial planning program faculty and chosen by the RFPP advisory board scholarship committee. Awards are distributed in annual amounts up to $5,000. Students who are interested in receiving awards must submit a letter of application to the business department chair by March 1 of each year.

Criteria for Scholarship Awards

  1. Recipient(s) will have declared a concentration in financial planning and intend to complete the 15 hours required for certification.

  2. Recipient(s) will maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be making reasonable progress toward the completion of a degree.
  3. Each recipient must be an active member of the Shepherd University Financial Planning Club.

  4. Financial need may be considered as an award criteria. Recipient(s) must file a FAFSA so that financial need may be determined by the Shepherd University Financial Aid Office.

  5. Students will submit a letter of application.

  6. Students must have completed 15 credit hours in department and at least 45 hours overall.

Rural Financial Planning Project Scholarships

Several named scholarship awards are funded through tax-deductible gifts to the Shepherd University Foundation. The criteria for these awards follow the criteria listed above. The RFPP board, Shepherd University and the Shepherd University Foundation are thankful for these generous donations to support financial planning students.
