The Shepherd University Observatory hosted the Kickoff Event for the Jefferson County Schools Education Foundation on October 3, 2006. The event's theme was "Helping Our Children Shoot for the Stars". Attendees included representatives from the Observatory, the Shepherd University Board of Governors, the Jefferson County Board of Education, and invited community guests.
