David R. Modler

David R. Modler is an artist, author and National Board Certified Teacher originally from Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in art education from Towson State University and his Master of Fine Arts in painting from James Madison University. Modler has fifteen years of K-12 art teaching experience in the public schools of Virginia and North Carolina. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of visual journals having co-authored Journal Junkies Workshop and Journal Fodder 365, both books are published by North Light Books of Cincinnati, Ohio and explore aspects of his research and studio practice involved in visual journals. Modler facilitates numerous presentations, workshops and lectures; most recently at the Canadian Society for Education through Art Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Art Unraveled in Phoenix, Arizona and the National Art Education Association in New York City. He is also prolific as a practicing studio artist creating paintings, visual journals and installations at a variety of venues. Recent exhibitions of his work were at The SPECK Project and EUC Gallery @ UNCG both in Greensboro, North Carolina; The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts and Catherine Smith Gallery both in Boone, North Carolina as well as the Kronos Gallery in Stanton, Virginia.
