ACADEMIC COMMON MARKET (Please see the 2009-2011 Catalog, p.18) In an effort to provide access to academic programs that might not be offered in public institutions in the SREB states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, the SREB Academic Common Market allows a student from one state to enroll in an approved program in another state and pay in-state tuition and fees. An institution in one state allows out-of-state students to enroll in its major field by listing the program with the Common Market, and a second state which does not offer the major field in one of its public institutions selects the program from the list and makes it available to its residents. Applications generally require a letter from Shepherd University certifying that the student is admitted to or is pursuing the appropriate ACM program (specific major and concentration). New students can request this letter from the Office of Admissions; current students can request it from the Office of the Registrar. Shepherd has offered several of its major fields to the Academic Common Market. Residents of Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina may enroll at Shepherd University in the following degree concentrations and pay Shepherd's in-state rates. The Departments of Art and Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, and the Environmental Sciences Institute have designated faculty members within each department to be the contact person for the Academic Common Market. The Admissions Office will send application forms to the admitted students that are completed by the student and mailed to their state higher education Policy Commission for approval. Once the state agency has approved the student's request to participate in the Common Market, the state mails the form to Shepherd's Vice President for Academic Affairs, who forwards it to the Registrar for adjustment of the student's tuition bill. To search for additional programs, please visit the SREB Academic Common Market Web site. Questions should be directed to the appropriate academic department. |
