SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University will start offering its first accelerated master’s degree program during the fall semester. The accelerated M.B.A. will allow students to begin pursing their master in business administration while still working on their bachelor’s degree.
Dr. Scott Beard, dean of graduate studies and associate vice president for academic affairs, said students accepted into the accelerated M.B.A. program will be able to take up to 12 credit hours, or four classes, that will count toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
“It’s something that students can start planning for early in their undergraduate studies,” Beard said. “It saves a year of their time and provides additional savings withone year less of tuition.”
Students accepted into the program must have a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. and must have completed 90 hours of undergraduate classes. They’re also required to submit a curriculum vita, a letter of intent, and two letters of recommendation as part of the graduate application process.
It’s hoped 10-15 students will enter the program over the next year. Beard said Shepherd plans to eventually develop accelerated master’s programs in other areas.
