President Shipley and Ms. Susan Kemnitzer will partner on a presentation aimed at uncovering added potential for externally funded research at Shepherd University .  Ms. Kemnitzer will describe the research and education opportunities offered by the National Science Foundation.   The National Science Foundation, created over 50 years ago, is the premier Federal agency supporting basic research at the frontiers of discovery, and science and engineering education at all levels.  The strategic goals of the agency are:

Discovery

§         Foster research that will advance the frontiers of knowledge, emphasizing areas of greatest opportunity in fundamental and transformational science and engineering.

Learning

§         Cultivate a world-class, inclusive science and engineering workforce, expanding scientific literacy of all citizens.

Research infrastructure

§         Build the nation’s research capability through critical investments in advanced instrumentation, facilities, cyberinfrastructure and experimental tools.

Ms. Kemnitzer will field questions about 1) ideas for proposals and 2) the procedures on how to apply.  President Shipley will take questions and suggestions on how to further externally funded research at Shepherd University.
