Towards a Golden Rule: Establishing Standards for Senior Fitness Evaluation


This presentation will concentrate on the history of formalized physical fitness standards in the
United States. With the number of Senior  Citizens to zenith around 50 million by the year 2030; benchmarks are not available to measure their activity progression nor excellence. This lecture will reveal the results of a ten year accumulation of data to develop such a future paradigm.

 

 

Dr. Matthew McIntosh

Mathew A. McIntosh is the Department Chair of HPERS at Shepherd University. He has been a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Maryland Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness for the past twenty years. Matt received his B.A. in Health and Physical Education from the University of Western Ontario, Canada; his Master’s from Kent State; concentrating in the History and Philosophy of Physical Education and Sport. His Doctorate was earned in 1984 from the Oregon State University with a concentration in Therapeutic and Sports Management.  Matt has published two college texts; Lifetime Aerobics and Tests and Measurements for Physical Education. Dr. McIntosh and his wife Lou Ann live in Leitersburg, MD. surviving four children, one who attends Shepherd studying music.
