Clarissa Mathews

Clarissa Mathews is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Shepherd University . She earned a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Rochester ( Rochester , NY ) and a Masters Degree in Entomology from the University of Maryland ( College Park , MD ). She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in Entomology at the University of Maryland and will graduate in December, 2004. Her research focuses on sustainable agriculture practices, with emphasis on biological control of insect pests. She has published in Applied Soil Ecology and Biological Control and has received research grants from the USDA National Research Initiative and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. She has received two awards for professional presentations and recently presented her research at the International Conference on Integrated Fruit Production in Trento , Italy . She has studied ecological agriculture at the Jæren Folkehøgskule in Norway, worked at the Wilson College Center for Sustainable Living, and now operates an organic farming and research facility in Inwood, WV, with her husband. She is a member of the Entomological Society of America and the International Organization for Biological Control.
