"Behind the Veil” provides a glimpse into the everyday lives of women of the Islamic faith. The presentation emphasizes similarities and differences in the everyday lives of women and girls living in Bangladesh and women and girls living in Western societies. Photographs document the joy, vibrancy, determination, and real life circumstances as observed by the Presenter during recent visits to Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. The presentation will  touch the hearts of the audience, challenge false  assumptions, and fragment stereotypes that impair peace and understanding among people of different cultures..

"Behind the Veil"

 

 Dr. Helen M Johnstone is Assistant Professor of Nursing in Department of Nursing Education. Dr. Helen served under Prince Sultan as Associate Administrator for Patient care services for the military and research hospitals of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense and Aviation. Her most challenging and rewarding experiences during her three and one half years in Saudi Arabia were learning to speak Arabic and developing an appreciation for the history and culture of the people. Behind the Veil provides insight into her Saudi Arabian experiences and features photographs from her recent trip to visit Islamic friends in Bangladesh
