Old Buildings, New Visions:
Environmental Sustainability and Historic Preservation

Dr. Keith D. Alexander of Shepherd University's Institute for Environmental Studies will speak on "Old Buildings, New Visions: Environmental Sustainability and Historic Preservation" at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006 in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies on the campus of Shepherd University.  The talk is free and open to the public.
Dr. Alexander's presentation will explore the areas of overlap between environmental sustainability and historic preservation.  It will emphasize historic preservation's potential contributions to efforts in recycling and waste reduction, energy efficiency, and endangered species protection.

The presentation will feature examples of cooperation between advocates of historic preservation and proponents of environmental conservation.  This cooperation is producing exciting new visions for old buildings and historic communities across the United States.  Some of these visions may be of particular interest to residents of the Eastern Panhandle, where rapid growth is increasingly affecting the region's rich architectural heritage and its rural historical landscape.
