RAMS PLACE THIRD IN WVIAC TOURNAMENT
(CHARLESTON, WV) --Shepherd College finished third behind University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan at the at the 2001 WVIAC Men's Tennis Championships. UC compiled 27 points, West Virginia Wesleyan was just behind at 26, and Shepherd finished with 25 points after two days of action at the Players Club.
Davis & Elkins' Toomas Veskimae earned Player of the Year honors after winning the championship in #1 singles, while Shepherd's Chris Stambaugh won the Coach of the Year award.
Two Rams earned conference singles titles. Junior Thomas Bohrnstedt (Greenbriar East HS/Shepherdstown, WV) defeated Chad Hudnall of Charleston 7-6, 6-2 at #2 singles, while sophomore Greg Selby (Brunswick HS (MD)/Shepherdstown, WV) downed Matt Cunningham of West Liberty 7-6, 6-2, for the #3 singles title.
Selby later teamed with senior Adam Kline (Hampshire HS/Kirby, WV) for the #3 doubles title with a default win over Colin Saluja and Clark Campbell of West Virginia Wesleyan.
