
Lu Kormeluk
Entering his sixth season as head coach of the Shepherd College volleyball team is Lu Kormeluk, who brings an extensive playing and coaching career to Shepherdstown. Kormeluk, who attended Pace University before graduating from Northern Arizona in 1968, began his coaching career in 1970 and has coached at various levels since.
A standout on the volleyball court, Kormeluk was twice invited to tryout for the United States National in 1969 and 1971.
He spent seven years coaching a Boy's Junior Olympic Team and has coached a senior men's team since 1986 as well.
Kormeluk became the head coach of the Rams in 1996 after spending a season as an assistant coach in 1995. After posting a 21-10 mark in his initial season, Kormeluk led the Rams to a 31-10 mark in 1997. After recording a 24-10 mark in 1998, Kormeluk made it four straight years of 20 wins or more with a 26-9 mark in 1999. The Rams posted a school-record 34-9 overall mark last season.
Kormeluk played on a top-rated men's team from 1970-1985, and has been a playing for a senior men's team since 1986.
In 1978, Kormeluk was a member of a team selected by the State Department that toured in Europe. The tour featured 23 matches with the team compiling a 19-4 record.
