Charleston Captures WVIAC Tournament
(BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va.) (APRIL 17) -- Senior Jason Pierson (Jefferson/Bakerton, WV) earned first team all-conference honors and helped lead the Rams to an eighth place finish in the 2002 WVIAC Golf Championship. University of Charleston captured the title with a three-day total of 898, edging West Liberty by two strokes. Concord sophomore Scott George took individual honors with a three-day even par total of 216.
Pierson gained first team WVIAC honors for the second time in his career. He also garnered all-conference honors as a freshman.
George also won the Player of the Year accolades, while West Liberty's Roger Waialae was selected as the WVIAC Coach of the Year.
Senior Justin Pugh (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) had a three round total of 233 for the Rams. Other Shepherd finishers included freshman Kevin Mitchell (Bishop Hannon/Scranton, PA) (242), sophomore Mike Masters (Loudoun Valley/Purcellville, VA) (244), and senior Ross Shapiro (Watkins Mill/Gaithersburg, MD) (250).
