2002 Eagles Landing Classic

David Bradshaw Ends Fall Campaign With a Medal Performance

OCEAN CITY, MD -- Firing a 74-70 two day EVEN par performance David Bradshaw (Jefferson HS) bested the 80 man field at Eagle's Landing Classic. The tourney was won by Wesley College with a 599 team score. The Rams posted a 9th place 632 score among the 16 team field. The tournament also featured four nationally teams (York, Wesley, College of NJ, and Allegheny), three of which went to the 2001 nationals.

Scores were high because of very wet course conditions that caused many plugged balls and actual lost balls. Billy Clusman shot a 162, Chris Butcher a 163, Justin Hockman a 166, and Jason Ferguson a 167. The top four scores daily account for team scoring. This was the second straight tournament where a Shepherd golfer was named champion. Billy Clusman won the Stonewall Jackson Invitational last week.

This match ends the fall season for the Rams. The Spring schedule is being finalized and will feature North Carolina competition and the always tough WVIAC Southern and Northern Regionals followed by the Conference championship event.

COACH'S COMMENTS: "For the most part we played this fall with only only one true upperclassman and a short season of 24 days of practice/play. This team has shown some maturing to the college type of play and also they have shown great potential for the spring. We have had great leadership by Billy and David as both have medaled. We finished ranked in the top 6 regionally (PA/WV) and are considered a contending team in the conference. For these reasons I am most anxious to see what the spring will bring. Fall averages are as follows David Bradshaw (9 rounds) 73.7, Billy Clusman (9 rounds) 77.2, Chris Butcher (7 rounds) 78.4, Justin Hockman (9 rounds) 82.2, Jason Ferguson (7 rounds) 83.3, and Goeff Howard (3 rounds) 95.3. We are talking to a mid semester transfer who possibly can add more punch to this spring. I know that this fall has been a learning experience for most of the guys. I really think this team has the potential to be a regional participant at the NCAA level next spring. Whether they get that chance will be up to them!"
