RAMS PLACE 6th at BLUE JAY OPEN
It was a beautiful day with the course in excellent shape as the Rams
played in a field of 19 at the Hershey West course (PA). Jason Pierson
started the match as hot as ever and passed the halfway mark one under.
This however was not to last. a few errant shots and missed putts and
he limped home at 78. Billy Clusman continues to shoulder the team as
he scored a team best 77. Justin Pugh had tough going early, regained
his game and faltered again with a disappointing 86. Senior Ross
Shapiro posted an 81 that was highlighted with an even par back nine.
Rounding our the team effort was Mat Segal with an 88. Team scores were
as follows:
Susquehanna 302
Franklin & Marshall 310
West Chester 313
Shenandoah 313
Western Maryland 320
SHEPHERD 322
York 324
Muhlenburg 325
Messiah 331
Moravian 331
Albright 333
Elizabethtown 333
Lebanon Valley 333
Gettysburg 341
Ursinus 342
Rutgers 347
Widener 349
DeSalles 357
Richard Stockton 360
Medalist was posted by Ryan Leith of Susquehanna with a 72
"If we had been a little more up to our average we could easily have
placed second. I was with Jason for a time and really felt he would
medal and be under par. His game became erratic and it was not to be.
Justin started off tough at five over and really held that spot until
the last five holes. Billy had a good round, but also with Jason and
Justin, missed some crucial putts. Ross's first tournament was as
expected as he really got tougher on the back side. Mat has a great
game but continues to struggle. There was no way Susquehanna was to be
beat today, but I do feel we could have placed second with a team total
under 310 had we hit on all cylinders."
Due to the canceled Bel Meadows tourney last weekend, the RAMS will
next play in an added match at Canaan State park on the 27th of this
month at 10:30. This will be a warm up for the Central Regional two day
affair at Canaan on October 1-2, which will be a total conference
tournament.
