Someplace New
This past weekend the Lady Rams traveled someplace new to compete in their weekend competition. Five and a half hours away, the team competed in the Greensboro Pacesetters Invitational at Hagan Stone Park in North Carolina. This was a jam-packed meet with many high school divisions competing, along with Division I, II, and II collegiate teams. This meet offered a lot of good experience for the team and a lot of team bonding.
The meet was located at a municipal park called Hagan Stone Park. Located among trees, fields, ponds, and more, this meet gave the girls a chance to run a different setting. The 3.1-mile long course traveled along a mulch path in the woods and began and ended on grass. This great terrain opened up a speedy start, middle, and finish. Winning the meet was a girl from Cedarville University and right behind her was her teammate. These two girls who both finished in approximately 18:52, and 18:57 lead the Cedarville to score 36 points and win the invitational. In second place for the team title was West Virginia Wesleyan with 72 points and in third, Otterbein with 108 points. Shepherd finished 70 points behind Otterbein with 178 points capturing them seventh place out of 16 schools.
Leading the way for the Rams was Liz Lowrie in third place, which finished her only five tenths of a second behind the second place Cedarville runner. Finishing second for the team was Tiffany Moskel, who ran 21:13 and placed 37th. . Moskel ran and finished the race with a painful back injury. Running a great race for the team were the pack runners of Rebecca Keeney, Jeanette Wilson, Lisa Bailey, and Marsha Soergel. These ladies all finished within 18 seconds of each other, respectively running 21:30, 21:31, 21:35, and 21:48. The ladies respectively placed 45th, 46th, 47th, and 53rd. Completing the team was Stephanie Brazell who placed 124. This was a very fast and fun race for the ladies as was to the ride to the meet and back to home.
This upcoming Saturday, October 7, 2000, the Rams will not travel to someplace new. They head over to their neighboring state, PA to run the Dickinson Invitational. This meet will act as challenge to the Rams and all the other teams competing. Many top-notch schools will attend along with many WVIAC conference teams as well.
