Shepherd packed their other five runners between 18th and 34th place. A Beautiful Beginning

This past weekend was the perfect beginning for the start of the Shepherd College women's cross-country season. The Rams hosted their home meet, running the Shepherd Invitational in their backyard. With the beautiful weather, the Ladies had a good first race. Placing fourth behind winner Western Maryland, the returning Rams and those new to the team landed themselves in good positions for the first race.

Nikki Stevens and Laura Dice experienced collegiate running for the first time and had good showings. They respectively finished 37th and 48th for the team. Both Stevens and Dice contributed along with Liz Lowrie, Tiffany Moskel, and Lisa Bailey to capture the fourth place finish. Lowrie, Moskel, and Bailey respectively finished 4th, 6th, and 11th. All five ladies had great turnouts for the first race of the season. They did, however, miss the presence of injured runner Marsha Soergel, and freshman Karen Chaney. Chaney will be competing in the next meet of the season, which is held at Slippery Rock University. Soergel will also hopefully be returning at that time.

Liz Lowrie

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan captured the men's team title, while Western Maryland won the women's crown in the 2001 Shepherd College Open Invitational.

Paul Moore won the race with a time of 28:19.9 to lead the Bobcat men, while Jill Krebs captured first place in the women's race at 19:38.2 to pace the Green Terror.

Sophomore Danny Channell (Tygarts Valley/Valley Head, WV) led the Shepherd men with a 10th place finish and a time of 29:21.2. Channell's time is the second fastest time ever recorded by a Ram runner on the home course.

The Shepherd women were led by junior Liz Lowrie (Urbana (MD)/Fairfield, PA) and senior Tiffany Moskel (Frederick (MD)/Frederick CC/Charles Town, WV). Lowrie finished fourth with a time of 20:36 and Moskel placed sixth with a time of 20:52.
