Beat but Not Defeated On September 9th the Shepherd Cross-Country team got to take a break from traveling when they hosted the Shepherd Invitational. Nine teams joined Shepherd on Saturday, including top teams such as Western Maryland, Southern Virginia, Catholic University and fellow conference team, Davis and Elkins. The weather faired a little too hot with the sun shining down on almost the whole course. The runners were lucky to have a slight breeze and some shade. Leading the way for the Rams was Liz Lowrie and Tiffany Moskel. Lowrie finished second behind winner and course record breaker, Jill Krebs from Western Maryland. Moskel finished a close seventh with strong performances following from Rebecca Keeney (21st), Jeanette Wilson (26th), Jessica Schneider (48th), Lisa Bailey (36th), Marsha Soergel (36th), and Stephanie Brazell (66th). These eight girls were able to place forth as a team scoring 86 points. Catholic University defeated the title winners from last year, Western Maryland, by scoring 52 points. Western Maryland pulled together 60 points to place third and beat forth place team Southern Virginia (81 points). Even though the Lady Rams were beat this weekend they have not yet been defeated. The team will ram onto Davis and Elkins on September 16th to face up against many other conference teams. -Elizabeth Lowrie |
