The Shepherd College men's cross country team placed 7th out of 11 WVIAC teams on a rainy day at Davis & Elkins College.
The Rams placed 11th overall, with a team score of 309. Freshman Danny
Channell was the first Shepherd finisher, in 52nd place. Close behind
Channell were junior Matt Wamsley and sophomore Chris McCully, placing 56th
and 62nd, respectively.
Rain from the previous night made the course at Davis & Elkins muddy and
treacherous for the runners in the Mountain State Forest Festival. Creek
crossings and log jumps were included in the race.
Other scoring runners for the Rams were Jason Lysne, in 68th place, and
Bill Reinckens in 71st place. Shepherd races September 23 at the Mount Saint
Mary's Cross Country Invitational.

Definitely Not Defeated
This past weekend the Shepherd Cross-Country team traveled to Davis & Elkins to have an early season trial against eleven other conference teams. Coming into the meet, the Lady Rams were definitely not in the spot light as were other teams such as Wheeling Jesuit, WV Wesleyan, and Alderson-Broaddus. The Rams came to this meet with the intention of either laying down their spikes or leave a message for all to hear, and a message is just what they left.
Only expecting a fifth or sixth place finish, the Lady Rams captured the third place team title. Scoring 86 points, Shepherd was only beaten by second place team WV Wesleyan with 53 points, and winning team, Wheeling Jesuit, with 46 points.
Liz Lowrie surprised everyone, including her team, as she led the way. Lowrie captured her first win for Shepherd defeating second place finisher, K. Hetzel from Wheeling Jesuit. Tucking in right behind Lowrie was Tiffany Moskel whose adjusted finish was 11th. Jeanette Wilson also surprised her teammates by placing an adjusted 19th after being sick before the competition. Right behind Wilson was Rebecca Keeney and Marsha Soergel who completed the scoring for the team and respectively finished adjusted 24th and 30th places. Also conquering this challenging course, which offered miles worth of muddy hills, logs to hurdle, and two deep creeks, was Jessica Schneider (adjusted 34th place), Lisa Bailey (adjusted 38th place), and Stephanie Brazell (adjusted 70th place). All of these girls turned out excellent performances.
The Rams put forth great effort and left a message for the rest of the conference teams in that they will definitely not be defeated. The Rams will continue forth with their great endeavors and will be competing at Mt. Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD this upcoming weekend.
