(BUCKHANNON, WV) -- Andrew Silva caught a pair of touchdown passes from Chris Cormier to lead West Virginia Wesleyan to a 23-15 upset win over Shepherd in WVIAC football action on Saturday at Cebe Ross Field.

Junior quarterback Joel Gordon (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, VA) completed 17-of-35 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Jason Dirting (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) led the Ram receivers with 12 receptions for 104 yards. His 12 receptions tie the SC single-game record set by John Fotta in 1985 against Concord. Junior running back Travis Lynch (Frankfort/Ridgeley, WV), hampered by a rib injury, did not start and managed only two yards on five carries. Freshman Alex Herbert (Urbana /Monrovia, MD) led all rushers with 149 yards on 25 carries in his first collegeiate start.

The Shepherd defense was led by seniors Tyron Shelby (Eleanor Roosevelt/Greenbelt, MD) and Doug O'Rear (Washington & Lee/Arlington, VA). The pair recorded 10 tackles each.

Shepherd falls to 7-2, 4-2 in conference play, while Wesleyan improves to 3-5, 3-3.

The Rams will travel to Concord next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game in the final contest of the season.
