(SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV) -- Junior running back Alex Herbert (Monrovia, MD/ Urbana HS) rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries to lead Shepherd to a 35-21 Homecoming win over West Virginia State at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Redshirt-freshman quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim HS) completed 12-of-19 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Junior wide receiver Travis Diamond (Vinton, VA/Warren County HS) led all Ram receivers with three catches for 28 yards. Junior wide receiver Jesse Correll (Port Republic, MD/Calvert HS) added two receptions for 23 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown catch.

Senior running back Travis Lynch (Ridgeley WV/ Frankfort HS) rushed 30 times for 128 yards and a touchdown as both Herbert and Lynch went over the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time this season.

Junior linebacker Demar Atwood (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson HS) lead all tacklers with 16 stops, including eight solos. Senior strong safety Dan Winning (Culpeper, VA/ Culpeper HS), redshirt-freshman defensive lineman Andre Henderson (Glen Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS), and junior defensive end Ramal Faunteroy (Washington, DC/Parkdale HS) each added eight tackles.

Junior quarterback Kerrick Cooper rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries to lead State. He also completed 17-of-34 passes for 150 yards. Senior running back Chris Lester added 38 yards on 12 carries.

The State defense was led by senior linebacker Ron Whaley, sophomore defensive back Robert Savoy, and senior defensive back Michael Mayer with 10 tackles each.

Shepherd improves to 2-3 overall, 2-0 in WVIAC action, while State falls to 1-5, 1-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Glenville State for a 2:00 p.m. contest. State will travel to Concord for a 1:00 p.m. game next Saturday.
