SHEPHERD EDGES UC SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University women's tennis team relied on the middle of their lineup to defeat powerhouse rival University of Charleston here on Sunday. The Lady Rams were able to edge the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-4 and thereby lay claim to the early lead in the West Virginia Conference. Shepherd and Charleston finished the 2003 season number one and number two, respectively. "Our number two through five players pulled this match out for us," said eighth-year coach Chris Stambaugh. "We were very close in the four losses we took. I think this result bodes extremely well for us in the conference." Shepherd improves to 2-0 while UC falls to 1-1.
