SHEPHERD WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS AT TOWSON INVITATIONAL

TOWSON, MD -- The Shepherd University womens tennis team went without a win in the Towson Invitational 4 + 1 Tournament, but picked up some valuable experience for the remainder of the season.

Competing in an innovative new format in which four singles matches and one doubles match is played, the Shepherd women took losses to Towson University, George Mason, Johns Hopkins, and Washington College (Md.). Teams may choose to play anyone in doubles, while the singles matches must be in order of strength. Although the dual match-ups do not count toward his team's record, Shepherd Coach Chris Stambaugh thinks this high-level competition will pay dividends down the road. Indeed, while the Rams could not pull off any team victories, each player did manage to win at least one match in the event.

"The teams we played here are traditionally very strong," said Stambaugh. "We are going to have a number of battles in the West Virginia Conference this year; other teams have gotten tougher. This tournament will hopefully make us tougher as well."
