SHEPHERD BLANKS TECH SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University Women's Tennis Team began the defense of their 2003 WVIAC title with a 9-0 win over conference foe WVU Tech. Shepherd's win marked the return of two past Ram players, Missy Azeltine and Julie Lipscomb. The pair teamed up at number two doubles for an easy 8-1 victory. Azeltine's most previous season for Shepherd was the fall of 1998--then known as Missy Sakeman. In her first three seasons (1996-98), Sakeman compiled a stunning record of 81-26 in all her matches. With one more year of eligibility left, the new Mrs. Azeltine returns after a six-year hiatus. Like Azeltine, Julie Lipscomb is a Jefferson High School graduate and she returns to action for the Rams for the first time since 1999. That season, Lipscomb played in the number four position posting an overall 21-14 record. Shepherd will take on rival University of Charleston on Sunday at Jefferson High at 10:00 a.m. SHEPHERD 9 WV TECH 0 SINGLES 1. Azeltine d. Shelly Watkins 6-0, 6-2 2. Catherine Daniel d.
