SHEPHERD BLANKS WVU TECH

MONTGOMERY, WV --Shepherd University blanked WVU Tech, 5-0, in WVIAC women's soccer action at WVU Tech on Wednesday afternoon.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 24:00 mark on a goal by freshman defender Brittany Sweeney (Rockville, MD/Magruder HS) with an assist from junior midfielder/defender Erin DeHenzel (Bowie, MD/Archbishop Spalding).

Junior forward Ashley Gossert (Keedysville, MD/Hagerstown CC) gave Shepherd a 2-0 lead at the 26:00 mark on a feed from junior defender Erin Kinnear (Bel Air, MD/Fallston HS). The Rams took a 3-0 lead into the half when senior forward Erin Wilkinson (Fairfax Station, VA/ W.T. Woodson HS) scored on cross from Tara Roberts (Knoxville, MD).

Wilkinson added her second goal of the day at the 49:00 mark with an assist from Gossert. Freshman defender/midfielder Lauren Kinnear (Bel Air, MD/Fallston HS) closed out the scoring at the 61:00 mark on a feed from freshman defender/midfielder Amanda Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park HS).

Freshman Amy Bell (Frederick, MD/Linganore HS) recorded her first career shutout with two saves in goal for the Rams.

Shepherd improves to 3-4, 2-1 in WVIAC action, while WVU-Tech falls to 0-8, 0-3. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Southern Virginia for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
