SHEPHERD RALLIES PAST SOUTHERN VIRGINIA, 5-3

BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Sophomore forwards Jennifer Corkran (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and Stephanie Schroeder (Stephens City, VA/ Sherando/Lord Fairfax CC) each scored two goals to lead Shepherd University to a 5-3 win over Southern Virginia University in women's soccer action at Glen Maury Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Southern Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Susie Jex scored on a feed from Katie Uzcategul.

Shepherd tied the game at 1-1 at the 17:00 mark when freshman forward Whitney Reed (Woodbridge, VA/C.D. Hylton) scored on an assist from Corkran.

Minutes later Shepherd took a 2-1 lead when Schroeder scored on an assist from junior Lauren Kinnear (Bel Air, MD/Fallston).

The Knights tied the game at 2-2 early in the second half on a Natalie Rosvall goal.

Shepherd took the lead at 3-2 on another tally by Schroeder. Sophomore midfielder Kellie Wagner (Winchester, VA/Sherando) provided the assist.

Southern Virginia knotted the game at 3-all on an own goal.

Corkran scored on an assist from Reed and added an insurance goal on a penalty kick to provide for the 5-3 Ram win.

Shepherd goalie Amy Bell (New Market, MD/Linganore) recorded four saves for the Rams, while Mary Ertel had 10 saves for the Knights.

Shepherd improves to 2-2, while Southern Virginia drops to 1-3. The Rams will return to action on Friday when they host Bridgewater College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
